This is breaking news! For 72 years the American Medical Association has held a doctrine that cannabis has no medical value. The AMA has stood by the belied that cannabis should be retained as a Schedule 1 drug, which means that it holds no medical value.

“The AMA adopted a report drafted by the AMA Council on Science and Public Health (CSAPH) entitled, “Use of

Cannabis for Medicinal Purposes,” which affirmed the therapeutic benefits of marijuana and called for further research. “

This is great news from the largest medical associations in the USA. Which I suspect this will turn the heads of those in the FDA and we will soon see cannabis rescheduled.

Although it is disappointing that the AMA took so long to come to this conclusion, since cannabis has been used as medicine for thousands of years. What is also striking about this ignorance, is that in these thousands of years of cannabis being used as effective medicine, there is not one recorded death.

But despite years of fear and government bureaucracy, the AMA finally came to it’s senses, and release this report.

From opposingviews.com

“HOUSTON — The American Medical Association (AMA) voted today to reverse its long-held position that marijuana be retained as a Schedule I substance with no medical value. The AMA adopted a report drafted by the AMA Council on Science and Public Health (CSAPH) entitled, “Use of Cannabis for Medicinal Purposes,” which affirmed the therapeutic benefits of marijuana and called for further research. The CSAPH report concluded that, “short term controlled trials indicate that smoked cannabis reduces neuropathic pain, improves appetite and caloric intake especially in patients with reduced muscle mass, and may relieve spasticity and pain in patients with multiple sclerosis.” Furthermore, the report urges that “the Schedule I status of marijuana be reviewed with the goal of facilitating clinical research and development of cannabinoid-based medicines, and alternate delivery methods.”

I  for one, believe that marijuana and marijuana culture have had a huge impact on “the American way”.

America would not and could not have become the great nation we are today without POT! This is my attempt to give credit where due and just maybe fire-up a celeb or two to join the fight.

The folks at COED Magazine had this to say:

The talk show prince discovered pot late in life, and for good reason. Back in 1999 he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and couldn’t find anything to suppress his symptoms. He tried all sorts of pain killers; none worked, and all had horrible side effects. So he decided to try medical marijuana (same thing as regular marijuana, FYI) and it worked wonders for him! Years later, he is one of MS’s most recognizable faces, one of medical marijuana’s staunchest defenders, and even though he’s baked all the time, still managed to host his own talk show until 2008, when it was unfortunately canceled. Well, at least he’s still got his weed.
