Website host Ross Ulbricht gets life in prison

The Ross Ulbricht case that has created international headlines for almost 2 years now, since he was arrested in San Francisco for being the operator of the Silk Road marketplace has just came to a head last Friday when Ross was sentenced to life in prison.  The life in prison sentence was greater than even the prosecution was asking for.

After catching up on the case after being too busy to pay attention to this for the last year.  It is amazing how this man was convicted.  There was a lot of loose information, there were some federal agents involved in the setup, who were paid to infiltrate Silk Road, and then they were even indicted for corruption.   They did not reveal truthfully how they found the server in Iceland, and everyone who has analyzed the feds claims on how they found it, have completely discredited their explaination.

However beyond the fate of Ross Ulbricht, and I do hope he appeals.  The implications of this conviction sets a terrible precedence for service providers who host data on the internet.  It’s amazing that he can get life in prison for the actions of users on this site.

Do you think that could be referenced in future cases and be used to give life sentences to other hosting providers?

This is a very scary case.

Also reference this lengthy article that documents the known history of this case, and it is very enlightening (long winded, but great)
